今日能站在此处，我深感荣幸。那么荣幸在何处呢?有以下两个方面，首先，像大多数山里大学生一样，我也是一个从山里爬出去，又从外面广阔的世界踏着正步回来的学生。看到你们现在的生活就犹如看到了我曾经的生活，用几个字概括如下“赤脚破衣，花脸蛋;锄头镰刀，臭粪缸”!那时候很穷，家里仅能维持必需的生活费用，买不起书，交不起学费。我一年级上的还是私塾，那时候一年的学费是八十斤粮食，一块腊肉…………上学之路很是艰辛。

所以今天能站在此处，真的很不容易。最应该感谢的是父母，懂得感恩!跟现在在场的大多数同学一样，我们的生活都很艰苦，但是我走出了大山，走出了镇雄。可是你们呢?你们到底能不能走出大山，是该打上几个问号的呀?

穷日子咱过惯了，但是千万不习惯于贫困。面对贫困，我们要想办法解决它。父母外出打工是一种力图改变贫困的方式，但是他们很多时候会受到城里人的歧视。他们被城里人称作农民工，农民工就是没有素质，没有文化的代名词。我们就是农民工的后代。我们到底有没有出息，能不能给父母增光，就得要自己学习，多掌握知识。知识就是力量啊!

还有的人因为贫困就辍学回家，或是跟着爸妈外出打工。告诉你们，错了!如果知识守着家里的几亩地，那么你一辈子也走不出大山;如果你跟着父母外出打工，那么你同样和自己的父母一样被城里人看不起。农民工的后代仍然是农民工，农民的孩子还是农民，我们永远也摆脱不了这样的生活方式。

你只有让自己变得有知识，有文化才有可能活得有尊严。而让自己变得有文化，有知识的最直接、最重要的路就是无论遇到多大的困难都要坚持上学读书。现在国家的政策很好，九年义务教育不收大家一分钱，大家一分钱，也就是说你们可以不花一分一钱就能上九年的学。既然如此，你们有何不珍惜呢?!

1、让学生感到这里像家庭一样温暖。很多同学怀着一份忐忑与不安的心灵来到了这里，在七年级入学初，对学生进行思想教育，让学生感受到爱，让他们发现成效并不像他所想象的那样严厉，让他们认识到这里是一所高效，充满竞争，而又充满爱与关心的学校。若有学生在校生病，我必亲自陪同就医，随后与其家长联系，也加深家校的情谊;在各种公共场合，从不穿拖鞋、纽扣都是扣的整整齐齐、不留长指甲、及时剪发、从不抽烟酗酒等;讲话文明，尊重每一个学生，即使他们犯错的时候也用和蔼可亲的态度进行正面教育，耐心引导，公平公正的对待他们，不管是学习优秀的学生还是学困生，都给予一个老师应该给予学生的爱，关注他们的内心需求，哪怕是一个鼓励的眼神，一句温柔的话语，都让他们获得力量和信心，改变他们以后的学习态度，让他们更加诚信明理。班里有位同学叫董永倩，军训初，一天晚上打水时不小心被开水瓶烫伤了脚，当时我背着她打的去了市医院，从一楼背到三楼，他是我们班个头最大的一个女生，后来又从三楼背到一楼，回到学校后，又一口气背到寝室五楼。其实当时只是做了一件小事，但没想到后来背出了一名值日班长同时兼任历史课代表，成绩优异之外处处维护五班处处为班级着想。有时候和同学们一起观看电影或者视频时，感人之处我常常泪流满面，我喜欢展现真实的自己，我要让学生感受到这里的老师有情有义，我们和他们在一起，一起向家人一样。当学生慢慢把这里当作家的时候，他们的心暖和了，心也定了，在哪里就爱那里，出去后也要维护这里的一切，将来毕业后也不要忘记自己曾经的母校是成效中学。

2.给学生各方面发挥的空间。开始说我很幸运遇上了这班学生，五班的学生每个人都不一样，每个人都有自己独特的一面。我们的班歌是一位叫王宇飞的学生在一节课时间自己谱曲自己作词而产生的，当时班里的同学都很惊呆，她作文也写得漂亮，我跟她说全面发展，喜欢就要坚持下去，有时间多去研究研究喜欢的事，做一位博学多才的才女。班旗班徽是胡兴盛同学设计的，他很有绘画天赋，身上常常带着两本初级漫画教程，我并没有反对，我跟她说喜欢就要坚持，有空多研究研究，白老师不能教你画画，但可以给你一个空间和后面一个黑板，希望你好好珍惜，今后黑板报之类的你要好好珍惜创作，将来成为画界大师。杨丹妮等好几位女同学喜欢唱歌，上学期的合唱队我就让他们积极参加，虽然耽误了些许课时，但当最后把荣誉证书发到他们手上时，那种阳光般的笑至今烙印在我心中。殷旭和王琰喜欢体育，一直以来在学篮球课，上学期为学校参加颍东区中学生运动会几乎每周都要缺好几节课去训练，但后来除了为学校获得了名次，还为个人获得了个人荣誉，这学期七八年级运动会我们班的二十几分几乎全是他们挣的。李明霖每周六都要去学钢琴，后来发现学校也有一架钢琴，说想去趁中午吃过饭去练练，紫琴老师也同意了，我说中午吃过饭你不必来班级了，去练吧，一点之前回到宿舍休息，希望你成为第二个朗朗，第一个李明霖。班里面还有很多这样的同学，只要是好的事情基本上我都支持，尽全力给他们创造发挥的空间。至于学习，事实证明，他们后来都进步了。

1.有时间给学生放放电影或视频。当然电影或视频的必须要有教育意义必须经过精心挑选。最好是选择大考之后。学校每次的班会视频选择都非常精彩有时候可能要将近两个小时，为了让学生能看完，我常常牺牲了自己的第二节数学辅导。有时候需要给他们补充一些视频或电影，上学期我给学生放了一个叫做生日的视频，主要意思是“树欲静而风不止，子欲养而亲不在’，还两部电影，其中一部叫“重返地球”主人翁恰是他们的同龄人，讲一个人在遇到危险或艰难时，我想让学生知道：，对困难或危机时刻，恐惧并不真实，恐惧只存在于我们对未来的想法里，它是我们想象的产物，让我们害怕那些现在不存在，甚至根本不存在的东西，这种状态接近于疯癫，但是危险是客观存在的，但是恐惧只是一种选择。在看感人视频时，像十佳少年，感动中国人物，邹越爱的演讲，生日等学生哭的很多，看完后你要告诉学生很多人看过都会哭，但是哭过之后第二天又恢复到老样子，对于自己的生活并没有太多改变，经常这样就会麻木了，问题是我们看过之后要做出如何的调整与改变，这才是关键。

3.创设读书柜。让班级里的同学看到更多的书，并且经常给学生读读一些好的文章或哲理。

4.相信每一位同学，多给差生机会，只要他们上课举手，一定首先考虑这些学生。发现他们的优点，放大他们的优点。

5.到寝室里面别板着脸，有时候他们说个笑话未尝不可，只要他们不过火有些事情可以睁一只眼闭一只眼。

6.在学生面前多讲我们班其他各科老师的优点，对我们班是如此用心，要让学会在课堂上感恩课下感恩。

7.开男生会和女生会。每一学期我都会给班里面的男生和女生分别开会，先开女生会，男生全部离开教室，下次在开男生会，女生全部离开教室，离开教室的同学多去浴池洗头或回宿舍洗衣服。基本上以聊天为主，主要谈寝室生活，学习中遇到的共同困难。区别是在讲谈恋爱问题时，开女生会时，告诉女生如果有男生给某女生写信表达爱慕之情，注意回绝方式，第一谢谢你，第二请你好好学习，第三请你自重。跟女生说，这些给你写信的你想想他们都是什么，他们都是还没有长大的小树苗，如何能为你遮风挡雨，男生恋爱容易出来，女生一旦坠进去，很难自拔或许会毁之一生，不要自毁前程，将来学有成就，你面前摆放的会是整个森林。给男生开会，主要讲将来会是家中的顶梁柱，上有老父老母要赡养，下有妻儿全家要养活，如果不争气，现在不好好学习，如果没有能力将来如何能担起这样的责任，况且现在吃的花的都是父母的，根本就没有能力去保护别人。爱慕之心也许会有，把这份美好的感觉放在内心，做最好的自己最棒的自己。

8.设置值日班长。我班有7位值日班长，每人轮流值日两天，课代表负责记录每一节课上课情况，下课后交予值日班长，每天值日班长都认真记录，并要写出班级一天的整体表现提出改善意见。有时要写出今天班里发生了一件什么幸福的事情。然后头天晚上放到我桌子上，我看过之后，第二天晨会过后该表扬的表扬，该责罚的责罚。

9.培训小组。小组培训要分别进行，每一组不同阶段提出不同的目标。并尽量给小组更多的机会去锻炼，比如班会可以交给一个小组去主持与创作，和胡兴盛一起出一次黑板报，甚至让一个小组去备一次课，我认为可以尝试。以增强他们的团结互助，共同进退。

10.过生日。这个每星期可以抽20分钟左右给班级里这星期过生日的同学送上生日礼物和祝福，全班同学一起唱生日歌。(这一点我们七年级坚持了一年，八年级一直没有做，我感觉可以继续坚持下去。)

11.抓住关键时间点进班。常常也在不是关键点进班里面看看。

12.考过试后，请各科老师到班级里面开试卷分析会。

最近我对班主任的新认识：

一个是我今年做了父亲，我真正亲身体会到做父母的真不容易，我突然发现班级里面的学生父母真了不起，这些学生是怎么长这么大的，而且还会这么多，我更加理解了他们的父母。

二是上周六班里面发生了一件事，当时晚上坐在电脑旁写下了这样的反思：

有时候真不理解为什么现在的学生不怎么喜欢学习，只要是与学习无关的事他们什么都可以做，也曾怪过他们不懂得珍惜时间，珍惜父母的的血汗钱，珍惜老师的劳动成果，虽然说了很多次，但总是收效甚微，学生们没有太多改变，依旧我行我素。我问自己，是时代变了吗?还是这些00后真的不知道生活艰辛，不懂得珍惜现在呢?我为此生气过，甚至恼羞成怒过，但是最终发现没有用，他们还是没有改变。于是我反问了自己，要是我换成他们，或者我在他们这个年龄的时候我在干什么?我会做什么?我忽然明白，原来我也会那样，天天去背那些陌生的单词我无法忍受，天天去做都不知道有什么意义的数学题真是百无聊赖，没有一点意思，难道就为了那微不足道一次成绩而让我全心全意坐在这个教室里面而去上课全神贯注一动不动吗?我做不到!那么所以他们也做不到!

为此，我反思：到底什么才是真正的学习?什么才是真正的高效?我到底该怎么样做才能改变或影响他们?

当天早上开晨会的时候，女生寝室的张阿姨又说了313五班的几个女生昨晚说话晚到九点五十左右，休息相比较晚。因为不是一天说313慢了，我的确有点生气，开完晨会后我回到班里布置了任务后就讲了这件事，当时也很生气。后来学生去吃饭了，我因为生气没和学生一起吃饭，就在办公室批月考数学试卷。后来批着就饿了，看到张老师桌子上有袋薯条就随手撕开吃了，这时候313的三个女生走进了办公室(他们吃完饭回来)，其中一个说他们昨晚并没有说话，我说管理员说你们说了不会假的，就快到考试时间了，先回去。她们出去了，就在这时我听到一个声音：说不准吃零食自己却在吃。我望着手中拿着的薯条很是气愤，但因为要考试也没再叫回他们，然而这个声音的确在我脑子里转了一上午。

学生是单纯的，没有想那么多很正常。我记得曾经我问陈颖老师，为什么做了那么多也得不到所有学生的理解，总会有个别学生不听你的，陈老师说只要尽心尽力，认真对待，把握住主流，至于不明白的后来也许会明白。今天的这件事终于使我茅塞顿开，原来做班主任的在学生面前必须是一种正面形象，一种正能量，在你身上，甚至在你身上要树立他们的一种信仰，哪怕是像这样的吃零食小事，自己做不到怎么去要求学生呢?你若违背了他们的信仰也许就塌了。

于是我进一步反思自己：其实我胡子有段时间没刮了，这也影响了学生，今后他们会不会不注意形象?我学习也越来越少了，不像以前早上也喜欢拿本书看看读读，是不是我不爱学习也影响了他们不爱学习?又或者是如果一直以来我非常的热爱学习会给学生带来一种正能量，引导他们也酷爱读书。那么我在班级的说话，我的动作，我的处理方式，我的衣着打扮，我的与学生谈话，我的在有学生时与教师交流所表现的语言行为，我的吃饭方式，我的对待他人方式，我的喜好，我的决定，我的等等所有一切原来都在影响学生。终于，我明白了什么是己所不欲勿施于人，我明白了什么是莫问前程，躬身行道!我明白了教师不仅仅是传道到授业解惑，我明白了什么是教师。原来教师不仅仅是教书育人，教师更是一种形象，一种正能量!

我要谢谢这位学生，我要谢谢班级里还有那些不听话的学生，是你们让我反思，让我明白了什么是自己的职业，让我明白如果学生都一样那是失败的教育，也许你们的捣乱与反抗才显得你们更有血性，我不能把你们培养成羊，你们要像狼一样敢于虎嘴里夺食，像狼群一样勇敢团结，敢于向权威挑战，我们的民族需要有血性的你们，我们的祖国还不够强大，我们要继承周总理当年的为中国之崛起而读书，新时代的我们你们要为大中华之雄起而自强不息。因为你们我要变得更好更出色，我要征服你们!

人家说教师是高危行业，班里面有学生再差在捣乱我发现我也没有能力赶走他们，也许有时候赶走可能的会是我自己，既然如此，我只有尝试去改变他们，我是一个喜欢挑战的人，可是我慢慢地发现改变的更多的是我自己，就在我自己改变的过程中，我发现我的改变影响了班里很多学生。

或许乔布斯的那句话“活着就是为了改变世界”是我们的目标，而当我们去做时，我们最有能力做的是改变自己，也许我们的改变才能够影响学生，他们改变与进步，不断的传承下去，也许那时真的能够改变世界。

各位尊敬的家长，大家上午好!首先，请允许我感谢大家在百忙之中抽出宝贵的时间来参加此次家长会，感谢大家对学校工作的支持。其次，我想代表我们10幼教(1)班的所有小孩对各位说一声：辛苦了，感谢你们一直以来的关爱与付出。我知道在座各位有不少家都住得比较远，今天还得一大早起床赶过来，真的很不容易。上周还有小孩跟我说，“老师，怎么感觉这次家长会搞得这么隆重啊?我爸本来周日还有很重要的事情要去办的，但他还是想办法把时间调开，说一定要过来。”我当时想的就是，这不是隆重或不隆重的问题，而是在座各位心底都有一句，“孩子的事就是天大的事”。更何况这接下来的五年，对孩子以后的就业乃至整个人生都是非常关键的，因为她们的专业技能是在这个五年内培养，她们的人生观、世界观、价值观是在这个时候逐渐建立，个人的能力与品格也是在这个期间慢慢提升或形成的。我觉得，说这五年会影响她们以后整个人生的走向都不为过。下面我就我们班这三个月以来的管理情况和学生各方面的发展情况做一个简单的介绍。

一、品德教育

“厚德博学，止于至善”是我们班的班训，“身正为师，学高为范;亦德亦才，自强不息”是我们班的跑操口号，象征着愉快、幸福、纯洁、天真、和平、希望、美丽、坚强的雏菊是我们的班花。我认为，一个人最重要的首先是要身心健康，拥有正确的人生观、世界观、价值观，具备良好的行为习惯与优秀品质。因此，我将德育放在了智育的前面。播种行为收获习惯，播种习惯收获性格，播种性格收获品质，播种品质收获人生。在入学初期，班上不少同学组织性纪律性较差，合作意识薄弱。最后一个离开教室的人不能自觉做到关好电灯、电扇与门窗。宿舍里，有人不愿意参与打扫，连把垃圾袋带到楼下这样的轻松的任务都不愿意完成。甚至还有人每天都要争着第一个回去洗澡，为的只是洗好后可以去找同学玩。这些都只是一些小事，但各位都很清楚这些细节问题的背后意味着什么。因此，一方面，结合班级的实际情况，详细制定了班规班纪，并与千分考核制度挂钩，从行为习惯上对学生进行硬性制约。并让学生学习《弟子规》，以了解一些基本礼仪。另一方面，通过谈话及周记的方式深入交流，从思想上对学生进行教育与转化。经过不懈的努力，我们班被评为常规管理优胜班级，内务整理优秀班级，各方面都获得了学校和各任课老师的肯定。在德育方面，为了给部分学生以肯定，并鼓励其他同学向其学习。我们班在月月之星评比中也设置了相关项目。如秦苏童、朱瑶被评为9月份文明之星，秦丹、秦苏童被评为期中自律之星，刘倩、成晨被评为期中奉献之星。其实，我们班大部分小孩都有在进步，她们周记本中所记录所表达的就是最好的证明。不过，出于对小孩所要求的隐私的保护，我就没让她们将周记本留在桌上。

二、励志教育(结合最新新闻谈幼师前景，新闻见附带材料)

从入学初开始，我就注重对小孩进行励志教育。我们学校有不少优秀的毕业生，比如__级对口单招机电一体化专业的学生戴家隆。他经受住中考失败的打击，勤奋学习，以绝对的优势顺利考取南京工业大学机械工程及自动化专业本科。因为深知接受高等教育的宝贵机会来之不易，在大学期间他更加努力，大学四年共获得一次特等奖学金、两次一等、二等及三等奖学金。于是其继续求学的愿望也变得更加强烈了，今年考研，他以351分的高分被南京航空航天大学录取，远远超过国家分数线275分。1994级计算机应用专业学生夏崔春，1998年从学校毕业后，考入东南大学就读电子与科学技术本科专业，__年考取东南大学无线电系信号与信息处理专业硕士研究生，毕业后进入华为技术有限公司上海研究所，从事a以及3g网络的研究，去年6月，进入南京爱立信熊猫通信有限公司担任系统工程师。1993级微机操作专业学生周娟，创业，从向工地讨欠款到成为上市公司供应商。这样的例子还有很多。我们学校还有一个叫陈蓉的女生，原先就读于机电部，因为热爱幼教专业，于是自己去参加成考，并成功转到我们幼教专业来。现在就读于08级幼教(4)班，并通过自己的实力成为了该班的班长。给我们班的孩子们讲这些例子，就是想告诉她们路永远都是靠自己走出来的。让她们对自己充满希望，摆正心态，将眼光放得长远，并为之努力。事实证明，这样的教育还是有效的，不少学生入学以来都取得了巨大的进步，比如经雅雯、朱瑶、王慧、奚芮、刘倩、朱晶晶、王迪。经雅雯、朱晶晶、彭庆文还被评为了我们班的期中励志之星。也有不少原先学习习惯或行为习惯不太好的学生，因此而在思想上发生了较大改变，并获得了班级同学的认可，在此我就不点名表扬了。

（5）会场布置不充分，人员安排不到位

China is now actively integrating into the world. our recent entry to the wto is a good example. for decades, we have taken pride in being self-reliant, but now we realize the importance of participating in and contributing to a broader economic order. from the precarious role in the world arena to our present wto membership, we have come a long way.

But what does the way ahead look like? in some parts of the world people are demonstrating against globalization. are they justified then, in criticizing the globalizing world? instead of narrowing the gap between the rich and the poor, they say, globalization enables developed nations to swallow the developing nations wealth in debts and interest. globalization, they argue, should be about an earnest interest in every other nations economic health.

We are reminded by karl marx that capital goes beyond national borders and eludes control from any other entity. this has become a reality. multinational corporations are seeking the lowest cost, the largest market, and the most favorable policy. they are often powerful lobbyists in government decision-making, ruthless expansionists in the global market place and a devastating presence to local businesses.

For china, still more challenges exist. how are we going to ensure a smooth transition from the planned economy to a market-based one? how to construct a legal system that is sound enough and broad enough to respond to the needs of a dynamic society? how to maintain our cultural identity in an increasingly homogeneous world? and how to define greatness in our rise as a peace-loving nation? globalization entails questions that concern us all.

Like many young people my age in china, i want to see my country get prosperous and enjoying respect in the international community. but it seems to me that mere patriotism is not just enough. it is vitally important that we young people do more serious thinking and broaden our mind to bigger issues. and, there might never be easy answers to those issues such as globalization, but to take them on and give them honest thinking is the first step to be prepared for both opportunities and challenges coming our way. and this is also one of the thoughts that came to me while preparing this speech. thank you.

In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.

The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.

One day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, Could you please explain this to me? I want very much to do better this time. I started explaining, and finished in a hurry. Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No one ever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldnt forgive myself. I simply couldnt forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, Why didnt you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? As I grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similar ones, I began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find that society, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. New buildings, new commodities and new fashions appear every day.

New ideas, new information, new technologies. People can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. Society is becoming more competitive.

Words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. Such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.

Such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. Yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.

We learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. We hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who cant even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.

We buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.

Such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.

Such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. History has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.

Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student. Probably Ill be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. But this doesnt discourage me any, for I know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, its going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that I will be living.

From Walls to Bridges

Im studying in a city famous for its walls. All visitors to my city are amazed by the imposing sight of the city walls, silhouetted by the setting sun with gold and shining lines. With old, cracked bricks patched with lichen, the walls are weather-beaten guards, standing still for centuries in protecting the city.

Our ancestors liked to build walls. They built walls in Beijing, Xian, Nanjing and many other cities, and they built the Great Wall, which snakes through half of our country. They built walls to ward off enemies and evil spirits. This tradition has been maintained to this day as we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public. I grew up at the foot of the city walls, and Ive loved them since my childhood. For a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world.

My perception, however, changed after a hiking trip to the Eastern Suburbs, a scenic area of my city. My classmates and I were walking with some international students. As we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by taller and taller trees, which formed a huge canopy above our heads. Suddenly an international student asked me, Where is the entrance to the Eastern Suburbs?

Let me give you an example.

A year ago, when I was working on a term paper, I needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. However, the librarian turned down my request with a cold shoulder, saying, You cant borrow this book, you are not a student here. In the end, I had to spend 200 yuan buying a copy; meanwhile, the copy in law school was gathering dust on the shelf.

At the beginning of this semester, I heard that my university has started not only to unify its libraries but also link them up with libraries of other universities, so my experience will not be repeated. Barriers will be replaced by bridges. Through an inter-library loan system, we will have access to books from any library. With globalization, with China integrated into the world, I believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.

I know globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. But one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to Chinas tangible and intangible walls and forces us to examine their roles in the modern world.

And how about the ancient walls in my city and other cities? Should we tear them down? Just the opposite. My city, like Beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. These walls attract not only historians and archeologists but also many schoolchildren trying to study our history and cultural heritage. Walls have turned into bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. If the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great change in the role of their walls. They are now bridges that link East and West, South and North, and all countries of the world. Our cultural heritage will survive globalization.

look! there is a rainbow! on the first day of my university life, when i walked into the campus, there was a rainbow bridging over the fountain, i hadn’t seen rainbow for a long time. i was so excited, and leaped high with joy. my ponytail danced with my happiness. it was a propitious sign indicated that my life in university would be colorful, and actually it is!

after my entry into university, i found my life so busy. what i should do is not only gaining the scholarship but also being a good monitor and leader of shanghai university percussion band. i got the 1st and 2nd price of scholarship in my 2 years of study. i organized charity donations for schoolmates with financial difficulty or disease. every week, i give drum lesson to new members of our percussion band. and there are always a lot of non-business performances, such as entertaining guests, celebrating party, cultural exchange with foreign students delegations and their bands. of course, part-time job is indispensable in my vacations. i ask for no payment but aim at getting accustomed to the society.

sometimes, my friends advise me not to tire myself out with such a tight schedule. i wake up before the rooster crow, and continue working till very late when others are enjoying their sweet dreams. every time i come back from the rehearsal of percussion band, i have to finish my homework with the help of my own charged light because of the blackout in out dormitory. maybe such kind of life is something like an ascetic, but we should work hard and try hard in our youth, aren’t we?

when i represented shanghai university to take part in the pond’s new century lady competition held in may, when i show off on the stage, when i emerged as “the girl of vitality”, i made use of every bit of time to compensate the classes i had missed, i made use of every chance to learn from other girls with vitality, versatility and intelligence, i made use of this opportunity to present our university students’ state of mind.

there is a little bitterness in my busy life, but at the same time, there is sweetness. it is colorful. i make fun out of it. i love it. when i snatch a little leisure i lie on the green grass, reading books, i cripple myself in the window-seat in our library---the 2nd largest in shanghai---i absorb knowledge like a hungry sponge, i wonder along the bank of river, listening to oriels in willows and get a splendid sunset view of the campus. the sky is drunk with the sunset; i am drunk with the sweetness of my like.

and now i have been here two years. recalling to the two years, i think i have to talk about one thing--learning. learn how to study independently, learn how to get along with others, learn to love, learn to… oh, there are too much things we have to learn.

comparing with senior high school, college is a rather different place. there aren’t so many people to watch you and guide you how to do something any more, neither are there so many students who share with you one dream. in college, you must think and study yourself, so you have to learn and practice to control yourself.

Facing this audience on the stage, I have the exciting feeling of participating in the march of history, for what we are facing today is more than a mere competition or contest. It is an assembly of some of Chinas most talented and motivated people, representatives of a younger generation that are preparing themselves for the coming of a new century.

Im grateful that Ive been given this opportunity, at such a historic moment, to stand here as a spokesman of my generation and to take a serious look back at the past 15 years, a crucial period for every one of us and for this nation as well.

Though it is only within my power to tell about my personal experience, and only a tiny fragment of it at that, it still represents, I believe, the root of a spirit which has been essential to me and to all the people bred by the past 15 years.

In my elementary years, there was a little girl in the class who worked very hard but somehow could never do satisfactorily in her lessons.

The teacher asked me to help her, and it was obvious that she expected a lot from me. but as a young boy, restless, thoughtless, I always tried to evade her so as to get more time to enjoy myself.

One day before the final exam, she came up to me and said, Could you please explain this to me? I want very much to do better this time. I started explaining, and finished in a hurry. Pretending not to notice her still confused eyes, I ran off quickly. Nat surprisingly, she again did very badly in the exam. And two months later, at the beginning of the new semester, word came of her death of blood cancer. No one ever knew about the little task I failed to fulfill, but I couldnt forgive myself. I simply couldnt forget her eyes, which seem to be asking, Why didnt you do a little more to help me, when it was so easy for you? Why didnt you understand a little better the trust placed in you, so that I would not have to leave this world in such pain and regret?

I was about eight or nine years old at that time, but in a way it was the very starting point of my life, for I began to understand the word responsibility and to learn to always do my duties faithfully and devotedly, for the implications of that sacred word has dawned on me: the mutual need and trust of people, the co-operation and inter-reliance which are the very foundation of human society.

Later in my life, I continued to experience many failures. But never again did I feel that regret which struck me at the death of the girl, for it makes my heart satisfied to think that I have always done everything in my power to fulfill my responsibilities as best I can.

As I grew up, changed and improved by this incident and many other similar ones, I began to perceive the changes taking place around me and to find that society, in a way, was in its formative years like myself. New buildings, new commodities and new fashions appear every day.

New ideas, new information, new technologies. People can talk with each other from any corner of the earth in a matter of seconds. Society is becoming more competitive.

Words like individuality and creativity are getting more emphasis and more people are rewarded for their hard work and efforts. Such is the era in which this generation ,grows and matures.

Such is the era in which this generation will take over the nation from our fathers and learn to run it. Yet in the meantime, many problems still exist.

We learn that crimes take place in broad daylight with crowds of people looking on and not assisting. We hear that there are still about 1 million children in this country who cant even afford to go to elementary schools while enormous sums of money are being squandered away on dinner parties and luxury cars.

We buy shoddy medicines, or merely worthless junk in the name of medicines, that aggravate, rather than alleviate our diseases since money, many people believe, is the most important thing in the world that must be made, even at the expense of morality and responsibility.

Such an era, therefore, determines that we are a generation with a keener sense of competition and efficiency and a greater readiness to think critically and act creatively.

Such an era, furthermore, demands, that we are a generation with a clear perception of our historical responsibility and an aggressive will to take action and solve the problems. History has long been preparing these qualities in this generation and it is now calling us forward to give testimony to our patriotism and heroism towards this nation and all humanity.

Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of my life as an ordinary student. Probably Ill be an ordinary man for the rest of my life. But this doesnt discourage me any, for I know that with my sense of responsibility and devoted efforts to always strive, for the best, its going to be a meaningful and worthwhile life that I will be living.

Standing here now, I think of the past 15 years of this nation, which has achieved greatness that inspired millions of people of my age, most of whom will not attain fame or prestige and only a few of whom will be remembered by posterity. But that doesnt discourage us any, because we know that the world watches, the world listens, the world is waiting to see where this nation will be heading in a time of rich opportunities and fierce competition.

I cant ever forget that little girl in my class who couldnt had the same opportunities as any of us here to enjoy a wonderful life today and a hopeful world tomorrow.

It is the sacred responsibility of this generation to face up to the challenges of the new century and to devote our sweat and blood, our wisdom and passion, to the historic cause of making this nation a greater and happier land for every one of us.

We are not going to evade that responsibility. We are going to let people down. And people, far and near, will hear of us. Frost will be brought to their backbones and tears to their eyes when our stories are told and retold, So let us go forth, my fellow members of this luckily chosen generation, and meet the new century in victory and glory.
