Our planet is in trouble!Almost every day we seem to hear of yet another problem affecting the environment - and what a list of problems!- pollution,acid rain,global warming,the destruction of rainforests and other wild habitats,the decline and extinction of thousands of species of animals and plants.and so on.

Nowadays,most of us know that these threats exist and that humans have caused them.Many of us are very worried about the future of our planet and unless we can find a way of solving the problems we have made then the environment will suffer even more.

It all sounds so depressing - but we certainly mustnt despair!Every one of us,whatever age we are,can do something to help slow down and reverse some of the damage.We cannot leave the problem-solving entirely to the experts - we all have a responsibility for our environment.We must learn to live in a sustainable way i.e.learn to use our natural resources which include air,freshwater,forests,wildlife,farmland and seas without damaging them.As populations expand and lifestyles change,we must keep the World in good condition so that future generations will have the same natural resources that we have.

Nobody wants to use a broken window or drink with a broken glass or wear a pair of broken glasses. Once it is broken, it becomes waste. The rate of using plastics is increasing day by day. People use plastic bags because they are convenient. When they get home, they throw the plastics way, paying no attention to the environment. The more convenience plastics brings to us, the more plastic waste is produced. This is called “white pollution” as most plastics are white. Some of our products we use every day are made of rubber, just like the tyres and the bottom part of our shoes. It’s true that rubber plays an important role in our life. 我叫刘林珍，来自环建系11级造价1班。今天我演讲的题目是：科普与低碳生活。

作为一名学生，一直以来我都以为科普与低碳似乎与我是较为遥远的事情。之所以选定了这个题目，源自于不久前我参加的一次科普讲座。那是区科协在我们社区举办的低碳生活科普讲座。正是通过这次科普活动，使我对科普工作有了深刻的认识，使我对低碳生活有了深入的理解。使我由科普的参与者和受益者，成为低碳生活的推广者和践行者。

观看了灾难电影《2012》、《后天》的人都对影片展现的灾难场面记忆犹新，谈之色变。也许有人会说，电影就是想象和艺术加工，可是我要告诉大家，艺术来源于现实，更有可能演变成现实。影片绝不是杞人忧天，更不是危言耸听。

大家知道，十九世纪以来，人类不断加快着工业化和城市化的步伐，人们生活在得到极大改善的同时，也带来大量二氧化碳的排放，我们生存的这个星球环境日趋恶化：冰川开始融化，沙尘暴年复一年，极端天气频繁出现，珍惜物种日益减少。让整个中华民族为之哭泣的汶川、玉树大地震，令我们悲痛欲绝；大西洋冰岛的火山强烈喷发，让整个欧洲笼罩在浓烟尘粒之中。法国大作家雨果早已告诫过我们：大自然是善良的慈母，同时也是冷酷的屠夫。千里之堤溃于蚁穴，人类只有一个地球，生态链的任何一环断裂都会带来不可逆转的灾难。如果我们继续盲目的索取，肆意排放二氧化碳，必将爆发可怕的生态危机，其后果不堪想象。长此以往，请大家想想，我们究竟要给子孙后代留下什么？

前不久召开的哥本哈根气候峰会被誉为人类遏制全球变暖的“最后一次机会”，我国向世界宣告了控制温室气体排放行动目标，到2020年单位国内生产总值二氧化碳排放要比2005年下降40%～45%。合抱之木，生于毫末，千层之台，起于累土。节能减排目标的实现，需要我们每一个人，从现在起，从自身做起，即做低碳生活的实践者，又要做推动科普、普及低碳的倡导者。

那么什么是低碳生活呢？所谓低碳生活就是指在生活作息时所耗用能量尽量减少，从而降低碳、特别是二氧化碳的排放。包括工业生产上的节能减排、建筑的绿色设计、汽车的节能、生活中的各种节能。有的人认为，二氧化碳只有在汽车排放尾气、煤炭燃烧时才会产生，其实生活中处处都有微弱的“碳”在侵害着我们的地球。就连小小的手机电池充电时都会排放出二氧化碳。有专家算过一笔账：及时拔下家用电器插头，全国3.9亿家庭大约可减排197万吨二氧化碳；如果全国减少10％的塑料袋的使用，可减排3.1万吨二氧化碳；如果全国每人每年节约0.5千克大米，可减排61.2万吨二氧化碳。生活中，还有很多细节都能降低碳的排放。如垃圾回收、使用节能灯、少吃口香糖、使用环保袋、自觉提高空调制冷温度、双面打印、不使用一次性餐具、推广素食、随手关灯、多坐公交车、不浪费饭菜，这些生活中的小事，都是每个人力所能及，却又意义非凡的事情。

Professor James Clark is founder of York’s Green Chemistry Centre for Excellence and the world’s leading green chemistry journal, Green Chemistry. He said: “We are now talking to producers of automobiles, electronics, furniture and pharmaceuticals, people who need to use chemistry but don’t think of themselves as chemists.”

As waste production legislation becomes increasingly strict, the traditional emphasis on making as much of a chemical as possible is shifting towards minimizing the waste that process creates. “A lot of chemicals are made from petroleum, but we are developing sustainable ways to make carbon, typically from biomass such as dead plants and trees,” said professor Clark.

All of last year’s graduates quickly found employment, some receiving multiple job offers in a variety of different fields.

Li Li, a 26-year-old Chinese postgraduate student, graduated from York in 20__. She said:

Deep in the heart of Wales, 400 students at the Centre for Alternative Technology’s (CAT) Graduate School of the Environment are busy designing and building everything from high insulation wood housing to wind power turbines. With energy costs rising, building firms are increasingly looking to minimize the energy wasted heating and lighting homes, a service CAT students are well-equipped to provide.

A new institute is being built to meet the burgeoning demand for places and a distance learning facility will be launched next September so foreign students can complete CAT courses from home.

We will get different prizes accroding to the different ways the dices show their upper sides. Everyone is likely to become the champion or “Zhuangyuan” for the year. There is an element of luck and equal opportunity in this game. So people usually get excited while playing. Also, the game gives very pleasant sounds. The tinkling made by the dices falling into the bowl is pleasant, people’s laughing, cheering and applauding for the big prizes they’ve won is pleasant. All this adds greatly to the joyful atmosphere of this festival. As a kid, of course I also like the material prizes I get from the game, such as a candy or a cake.

In this year’s Mid-Autumn Festival, my family invited our foreign friends to come to our home to celebrate the Festival together. They have two children who are younger than me. While our parents were making Jiaozi together, we kids played “Bo Bing”. We bought quite some gifts to share with our guests as their prizes.They enjoyed the game and our get-together very much.

However, it is still a biggest festival in the West. It is as important to the Westerners as the Spring Festival is to the Chinese people.

Christmas day is on the 25th of December, and Christmas Eve is of course the evening of the previous day, the 24th December.

Christmas holiday usually lasts for two weeks, during which most schools have a Christmas break. Many families put the Christmas tree in their house, and hang many decorations on the tree. Under the tree, they usually place many Christmas presents. Giving out presents and receiving presents are what kids like best about this festival.

On Christmas Eve, kids would put stockings at the end of their bed, wishing the Santa Claus would come and give them presents.

As to the tradition of giving and receiving presents in Christmas, I think it has something to do with the nativity story. In the nativity story, on the birthday of baby Jesus, there was a bright star shining in the East. There were three kings in the East who saw the star, and they followed the star all the way to Bethlehem where the star stopped. They came to a manger where baby Jesus was lying. They worshiped the little baby and gave him presents. I think this is a beautiful story. It shows a spirit of sharing and love.
